"For me, the actual wood is the unique part and I never fully appreciated how many varieties are out there. I really enjoy working with exotic woods the most though. Like anything that is rare and unique, you will find different price points reflecting that. The most unique part of the wood is that no piece is ever the same. The grain patterns can be different, colors will differ within one kind or even the same piece. The density and weight are always changing features as well. When I hand turn a pen or a bowl, my customer will know that the piece truly is a one-of-a-kind." Greg Jung

"The fun part about fused glass is you never quite know how the glass is going to look when it comes out of the kiln. Some glass creates uniqueness to pieces that you never thought about and it’s all based on the composition of the glass. Whether it contains iron, has speckles of gold in it or any other element that you may not have thought about fully. Just by changing the temperature of the kiln during the fusing or slumping process, you can influence the way a piece looks. For example, one kiln run can take eight hours and some pieces can require 2 to 3 kiln runs. For me it’s all in the excitement of that final look and feel. There’s a lot to this particular art that can be misunderstood or not fully realized by only looking at the final products." Maureen Smith
