- About | Laurel Reath
Get to know more about Erin Luther and Sarah Pridgeon, two friends, neighbors, and co-owners of laurel reath. Here you can find their mission and vision for their company. Sarah Pridgeon Born and raised in Germany, Sarah is no stranger to travel and loves to indulge in worldly food bringing a worldly perspective to her creative endeavors. Her degree in architecture combined with her experience in graphic design, allows her creativity to shine in and around her home. Sarah enjoys taking advantage of the Florida outdoors by strolling around the neighborhood with her daughter and fur babies, combining her passion for design with the beauty of nature. About Get to know our owner that is behind the founding of Laurel Reath and its mission. Owner + Founder The Mission Offering a spectrum of meaningful and handcrafted accessories, ranging from greeting cards and stickers to paint-by-number kits and custom designs. Sarah's creations aim to adorn homes and enhance everyday life, ensuring each piece is a unique reflection of her distinctive touch. Founding Story Once upon a time, in the quaint little Lake Nona neighborhood of Laureate Park, a magical story began… (yes, a tiny tribute to Disney being so close by) It’s the story of Erin and Sarah, two friends and neighbors, who became closer neighbors (literally), even closer friends, and then founders of Laurel Reath. We’re all familiar with the saying ‘when life gives you lemons,…’, well friends, even during a crazy year of pandemic we found lemons and made some lemonade. 2020 was a trying year for us all and we saw so many people turn to new creative outlets just to make it through. It was during this time that we discovered we had so much more in common than living in the same awesome neighborhood, across the street from each other, showering our four-legged fur babies with attention and love. It was the shared passion for decorating our homes, the one place we were suddenly bound to for the unforeseeable future, that really brought us together. Erin had just purchased a new home and had a blank canvas to work on while Sarah was in the middle of her own outdoor remodel. We shared concepts, ideas, usages, and colors. We continued sending each other pictures of products that were useful and added decorative value to our homes. Then one day our friends (also neighbors) asked us to plan their baby shower (for the cutest baby boy, Hudson) and that’s when we realized, we have a true passion for unique decor and its personal touch. We understood that it was beyond just supporting our neighbors and friends during this challenging time, but involving them and their beautiful artisanal skills throughout that special day. That’s how the idea of laurel reath was born. A creative, skilled person is honored by wearing a laurel (w)reath as a crown. lau•rel reath noun /'la:r.el , ri:0/ • honors local artisans by showcasing their unique creations We identify the immense artisanal potential surrounding us here and we focus on building a community that inspires everyday accessories and accentuates its craftsmanship and quality. Greg offers everything that can be turned out of wood or mastered out of leather. You will be able to explore all the beautiful wood types, colors, and unique grain lines each item has to offer. And why is leather is a product that never ages? Greg Jung The Interview How long have you lived in Florida? We moved here in the summer of 2018. What do you like most about living in Florida? Honestly, I enjoy my neighbors the most. The friendships I have made truly mean a lot. How long have you been executing your unique skill? I have been turning wood for about two years now. Like most artistic hobbies, there was a learning curve and I am discovering new tips and techniques every day. Is there a special reason or meaning behind you picking this specific expertise? Besides appreciating the beauty of so many wood species I have been able to work with, this was a hobby that allowed me to destress. My previous employment consisted of high-stress situations everyday and woodworking became a way to help relieve that stress. How would your family and/or friends describe your artisanal craftsmanship? I feel that they would describe my work as simple yet beautiful. They were (and still are) the recipients of practice projects and have been able to give me constructive criticisms on how I could improve, both functionally and aesthetically. What do you think others underestimate the most about your craftiness? That it is natural and easy to accomplish, which is far from the truth. I have ruined plenty of pieces just from practicing or not focusing on technique. Just like most artisans, time and energy has been put into honing my skills. After all, I want to produce the best piece of work i am capable of. What do you find most challenging, when putting your product out into the world? When I first started, I just enjoyed makings items to make them. Being able to get word out that I can make these unique items and have people come back to possibly buy more is my challenge. "I like to make pieces that I know will be with the recipient forever. Something that is special to them and has meaning. No two pieces are identical. I feel just like people, pieces are special and unique from anything else. There are so many yarn mediums and colors to choose from, or sizes, and just how I feel on any given day can impact the crocheting process and of course the final product. Colors and materials can change depending on what is available as well." Holly Scheele

"For me, the actual wood is the unique part and I never fully appreciated how many varieties are out there. I really enjoy working with exotic woods the most though. Like anything that is rare and unique, you will find different price points reflecting that. The most unique part of the wood is that no piece is ever the same. The grain patterns can be different, colors will differ within one kind or even the same piece. The density and weight are always changing features as well. When I hand turn a pen or a bowl, my customer will know that the piece truly is a one-of-a-kind." Greg Jung

"The fun part about fused glass is you never quite know how the glass is going to look when it comes out of the kiln. Some glass creates uniqueness to pieces that you never thought about and it’s all based on the composition of the glass. Whether it contains iron, has speckles of gold in it or any other element that you may not have thought about fully. Just by changing the temperature of the kiln during the fusing or slumping process, you can influence the way a piece looks. For example, one kiln run can take eight hours and some pieces can require 2 to 3 kiln runs. For me it’s all in the excitement of that final look and feel. There’s a lot to this particular art that can be misunderstood or not fully realized by only looking at the final products." Maureen Smith
